Some have been using it for so long that it would be inconceivable to use anything other than Microsoft’s official suite. Previously known as Office, the software bundle was rebranded to Microsoft 365 in 2020 with “Family” or “Personal” versions.
What does not change is that the Microsoft suite is still paid for, using the subscription formula which opens the right to use the software pack on one to five computers, or via licenses for a single machine.

If you don’t want to pay to use the software, you’ll be happy to know that there are solutions for creating, editing or viewing text documents, spreadsheets and other presentations. These free alternatives are not necessarily a choice made only for economic reasons, there are very successful software, others simpler, but largely sufficient for many users.
LibreOffice
It is probably the most serious alternative to Microsoft 365. Based on the apache Open Office suite, the developers have continued to develop Libre Office under the free software model and distribute it for free.
Several software make up the pack with text editor software (Writer), for spreadsheets (Calc), to make presentations (Impress), drawings (Draw), formulas and equations (Math) and to manage databases database (Base).
The software exists in Mac, Windows or Linux version and offers a pleasant interface in French.

WPS Office (formerly Kingsoft)
Less known and less complete than Libre Office, WPS Office will appeal to users of all systems looking for an alternative to replace the three most used Office software: Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Their equivalent in this editor is called WPS Writer, Spreadsheets and Presentation and are compatible with Office files. However, we regret that the interface does not benefit from the French translation.
The suite has a system of tabs to manage several documents simultaneously, a PDF converter and offers a system for protecting documents by password. The software is compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux systems. In addition, the Android and iOS versions allow the suite to be used on smartphones and tablets.

Well known to Mac owners, Apple’s office suite can also be used on a PC using the iCloud online interface via a compatible browser. In computers under MacOS it is preinstalled in the system or to be retrieved from the Apple AppStore.
The suite consists of three programs equivalent to Word, Excel and Powerpoint: Pages, Numbers and Keynote. Whether it is a text editor, spreadsheet or presentation creation software, the user has templates at his disposal on which to base his creations.

Google Docs/Drive
Commonly mistakenly called “Google docs”, Google’s office software solution has the particularity of only working with an active connection. However, solutions exist to handle files offline, but they will only be synchronized with the storage space once it has been restored.
Google Docs is Word’s equivalent for creating letters, while Sheets is a spreadsheet and Slides is the software for creating presentations. There is also the “Forms” module for online questionnaires. In any case, it is via a browser that you access these tools, the Drive software also allowing you to synchronize other elements to be stored on the free space that Google makes available.

How ? It is possible to use a free online version of Microsoft Office! And yes indeed, and the solution is even directly integrated into Windows 10. As with Google tools, Word, Excel, Powerpoint and other Office software versions are available for free online, and even offline.
The functionalities of these versions are more limited than the versions installable by subscription or to install, but most of the needs are covered by these versions. With the OneDrive software, it is possible to automatically synchronize your files and make some of them available offline.
