The battle between Sony and Microsoft is raging and it is not about to end. Also in the context of the acquisition of Activision-Blizzard, the American giant literally declared that the excluded PlayStation… were better than its own. An attitude that was quickly noticed on the web.
The takeover of Activision-Blizzard, the source of all the conflicts
You are not unaware that Microsoft wants to buy Activision-Blizzard for $69 billion : an absolutely historic deal in the video game industry, but which has yet to be validated by the various regulatory authorities. Inevitably, Sony does not really agree with this merger: for him, there is a risk of monopoly and unfair competition, Xbox then appropriating franchises like Call of Duty… which make a good part of the revenue at Playstation.
As a result, the two competitors come up with many arguments to convince governments to adhere to their vision: on the one hand, Sony, which claims that the takeover is simply dangerous for the market, and on the other, Microsoft, which is out of step, explaining that it needs this acquisition to remain competitive. A standoff that has been going on for months now and that shouldn’t stop right away.
The excluded singled out
It is therefore in a wide backrest that Microsoft spreads new arguments to favor the purchase of Activision-Blizzard. Among others, an admission of weakness which is debated and which, currently, turns widely on the Internet:
Sony has more exclusives than Microsoft, many of which are of higher quality.
It is therefore written in black and white: Xbox declares that its first-party games would be less good than those available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 and produced by Sony. A sentence that intends to seduce the CMA (the British competition authority), so that it gives the green light for the takeover of the publisher.
The attitude of the two parties remains, once again, surprising since they do not hesitate to break their usual policy, voluntarily exhibiting their own flaws (with a little bad faith, some would say) to influence the balance. For example, recently, Microsoft also voluntarily revealed its console sales (until then fiercely kept secret) to admit defeat, while Sony pointed out the danger of the Xbox Game Pass in the face of its growing success.
In short, we imagine that we should still hear about this duel of titans during the next few weeks.
