Microsoft unveiled its new hardware in the Surface range on Wednesday October 12. In celebration of the tenth year of the original Surface, the company revealed the Surface Pro 9, available for the first time in 5G.
The tablet has a 13-inch PixelSense screen, but not only. Choice of Intel or Qualcomm CPU
The Surface Pro 9 offers the choice of two 12th Gen Intel processors (Core i5 and i7) built on the Intel Evo platform with Thunderbolt 4 or, for the 5G version, a Microsoft SQ3 processor powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon. Either way, Microsoft is touting better performance and all-day battery life.
For its version under Intel, this new generation promises up to 50% more performance compared to the Surface Pro 8. Thunderbolt 4 allows fast data transfer and support for an eGPU configuration. On the side of devices under Microsoft processor, we boast of new AI features carried by an NPU capable of performing more than 15 trillion calculations per second.
In terms of design, little change for the tablet. It is only available in two new additional colors: Forest and Saphir, available exclusively on the Microsoft Store and in Fnac Darty stores for three months from November 8, 2022 and from 1299 euros.
Surface Laptop 5
For fans of classic laptops, Microsoft has announced the Surface Laptop 5 available in 13.5 and 15 inches. For its 13.5-inch version, the company offers the choice between a 12th generation Intel i5-1245U or i7-1265U processor. The 15-inch Surface Laptop 5 is only available with an Intel i7 processor for its part.
In terms of battery life, only one hour separates the 13.5-inch format (18 hours) from the 15-inch (17 hours). The devices are equipped with a Windows Hello facial recognition camera and Dolby Atmos 3 speakers. In terms of memory, the giant offers different configurations, but a maximum of 1 TB of SSD storage and 32 GB of RAM DDR5. The device will be available in stores from October 25 from 1179 euros.
For graphic arts professionals
Microsoft also announced Surface Studio 2+ for its professional customers. Launched in 2016, Surface Studio in its new version uses an updated Intel Core i7 H-series processor, with up to 50% faster CPU performance.
The device has an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card “to double the performance and obtain the most realistic ray traced graphics during 3D designs”, detailed the manufacturer. Improvements are also noted on the side of the screen, cameras and internal microphones. Count a minimum of 5589 euros for the Surface Studio 2+ with a basic configuration.
Additional accessories
In addition to computers, Microsoft also unveiled new accessories including Adaptive Accessories. Announced earlier this year, styluses and mice suitable for people with disabilities will go on sale from October 25.
The Redmond company also unveiled Microsoft Presenter+, a presentation tool for Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Audio Dock, a dock with four different ports (HDMI, USB-C and USB-A) which also acts as a PC transfer charger. power supply, speakers and microphone.
Finally, the giant has announced that it is getting closer to Apple through a new integration with iCloud and the Photos application under Windows 11. Objective: to facilitate the transfer of data between the devices of the two firms.
