Microsoft would work on new Surface Pro 9 with an ARM variant, which would effectively mean the end of the Surface Pro X range.

ARM still earns its acclaim a little. According to Windows CentralMicrosoft is reportedly planning to merge its Surface Pro X and Surface Pro 9 lines next fall.

Until now, the Surface Pro X range was presented as an ARM variant with Microsoft SQ1 chips from the Surface Pro. This year, the Redmond firm would like to offer a single Microsoft Surface Pro 9 range, with an ARM variant within it. This would be equipped with the Microsoft SQ3, namely the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3. For the time being, we do not know which of the two chassis will prevail, knowing that that of the Surface Pro X was slightly thinner.

A very similar “developer kit”

To support these assertions, Windows Central cites the launch last May of a development kit called Project Volterra. It is in a way the brand’s first fixed PC, also equipped with a Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 and the same capacities, same power and same neural processing unit.

Do not worry, if you prefer the x64 architecture, the next Surface Pro 9 should in all likelihood also integrate a variant under Intel 12th generation chip, more particularly of the P series. On the other hand, no AMD configuration would be studied.

For the first time on the Surface range, some models would benefit from 5G connectivity. The design of the Type Cover would also have been reworked with new colors for the occasion. Let’s add that the old Type Cover should of course be compatible with the new models.

The launch of the new Surface Pro 9 should be accompanied by a new Surface Studio as well as a Surface Laptop. All this should be revealed during the month of September.
