Microsoft has officially announced that its long-running PC franchise, Age of Empires, will soon be coming to Xbox consoles and mobile devices, including Android and iOS. This announcement was made during the Age of Empires 25th Anniversary broadcast. Let’s take a look at the sequel to the Age of Empire franchise!
Why is Age of Empires coming to mobile?
Age of Empires games have been on PC for a long time now, and this sudden surge is most likely due to the Activision acquisition that Microsoft is looking to make. The company has already made it clear that it wants more of its Xbox IPs to reach other platforms and that’s probably why Age of Empires is coming to mobile devices.

In a blog post, Microsoft said, “We’ve shared a trailer for a whole new way to play Age of Empires as it heads to mobile. This uniquely designed and visually stunning game will allow you to build your empire on the go. If the teaser got you excited, there will be more to share in the not-too-distant future. So stay tuned”
As of now, Xbox hasn’t revealed any gameplay for the mobile title, only a trailer has been released. This means that the game is still a long way from release. In addition to mobile devices, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition will arrive on Xbox consoles on January 31, 2023, and Age of Empires IV will arrive on consoles later in the year.
Just to be clear, this isn’t the first time Age of Empires has hit mobile devices. In 2015, Microsoft released Age of Empires: World Domination and Age of Empires: Castle Siege. However, the mobile version of these games were not working well at that time, which resulted in Xbox Studios ending support for both games.
