The time has soon come for Microsoft Flight Simulator to welcome a whole new type of vehicle. It’s during the 40th anniversary update that the helicopters will make their debut, and a long video comes to make our mouths water.
The Details of Helicopter Design in Microsoft Flight Simulator
Of course, a helicopter does not function at all like an airplane, and is not piloted in the same way. The Asobo teams give us details of the process of creating this new type of device, from modeling to the flight model, including audio design.
Sebastian Wloch, CEO of the studio, explains that his teams have developed a new rotor blade simulation in which hundreds of surfaces have been simulated as well as a new system for simulating air masses on the fuselage of new aircraft. It is these novelties that allow a realistic rendering of the behavior of helicopters when they approach or move away from different environments.
As a reminder, helicopters will be available in Microsoft Flight Simulator as part of the franchise’s 40th anniversary update which will be available this Friday, November 11. This will be free for anyone who already owns the game and will include helicopters, but also gliders, a new Airbus A310, several other fan favorite planes from previous editions of MSFS, classic airports and new missions. Other updates will follow, including the addition of trains in 2023.
