Microsoft announces the creation of the Africa AI Innovation Council to harness the power of data and artificial intelligence (AI) to strengthen climate resilience and adaptation efforts in Africa. With members drawn from organizations led by the African Development Bank, African Risk Capacity and African Climate Foundation.
The company is present at the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27), which is taking place in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. Where world leaders and business leaders come together to take action on issues critical to tackling the climate emergency. Participating as a strategic technology partner and presenting sponsor, Microsoft is unveiling new action-oriented, climate-focused initiatives.
Regarding Africa, Microsoft notes that there is not enough reliable climate data. There is also a lack of data scientists to work with available data to turn it into information for decision-making.
He therefore announces the first global expansion of the AI for Good Lab in Kenya and Egypt. Where data scientists will bridge the climate data divide and work with local partners to use AI in new climate initiatives.
