Gartner has released its 2022 Magic Quadrant for Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS). In a consolidating market, the research firm has selected and evaluated 12 companies in the unified communications sector against 14 in the 2021 edition. For this year’s Magic Quadrant, the meeting category has been integrated into UCaaS , which now includes enterprise telephony, meetings, unified and instant messaging, mobility and communication-based business processes.
The leadership category retains the five players already present in 2021. Microsoft is again ranked highest on the execution capacity axis, still closely followed by RingCentral. Some developments are nevertheless with Zoom, which mainly due to its strength in the meeting function this year climbed to 3rd place and takes over from Cisco in 4th place. Despite the acquisition of Fuze, 8×8 remains in 5th place. On the vision axis, Microsoft is ahead of RingCentral this year, but Zoom and Cisco are also making good progress, and the four players are relatively in line.
In the challengers’ quadrant, we find Google and GoTo, just like last year. Mitel, on the other hand, disappeared after its partnership with RingCentral. Dialpad is the only player to appear in the visionary quadrant, while it was previously in the niche player quadrant. This is the only change within this final quadrant, which still contains Vonage, Sangoma, Windstream and Wildix.
