Amazon and Eve also reveal their plans to transition to Matter

The main actors of the Matter standard are currently meeting in Amsterdam and unveiling their roadmaps leading to the transition to Matter.

Amazon: Android in 2022, iOS in 2023

Amazon took advantage of the event to announce that 17 products from the Echo range (including Echo Dot Gen 3/4 and 5 with or without clock, Echo Gen3 and 4, Echo Studio, Echo Show 5 Gen2, Echo Show 8 Gen2, Echo Show 10, Echo Input, Echo Flex and Echo Plus Gen2), will be compatible with the Matter standard (via Wi-Fi, but not yet via Thread) in December via an update. However, this development will only be available to users of Android devices. and will only support connected sockets, lights and switches. iOS compatibility is planned for early well as updating eero routers and Thread support in addition to Wi-Fi. Amazon is also changing its certification Works with Alexa (WWA) to add support for Matter into the requirements (so all new WWA-certified devices will need to support Matter). According to Chris DeCenzo, principal engineer at Amazon and member of the board of the CSA (for Connectivity Standards Alliance), we’re bringing Matter support to over 100 million devices through 30 Echo and Eero devices. This is an effort without precedent in its scope and complexity. It’s a big job, and we have to make sure everything goes well.

Eve: three Matter compatible products from next month

For her part, Eve announces that the latest versions of the Eve Energy connected plug, the Eve Door & Window opening sensor and the Eve Motion motion detector will receive an update in the coming days offering Matter compatibility, and that these three products will be able to be managed via Matter on iOS from December 12. Other products in the range will receive soon the correct update and new Matter-certified products will be released in the first quarter of 2023. According to executive Jerome Gackel, the new era of the smart home has arrived, and now we can invite users from all major ecosystems to experience Eve. No matter which phone or virtual assistant you control your Eve product from, it will always offer unparalleled privacy, a superior set of software features, and ease of setup.
